This Mansion in Everett is Looking for a Home

Last year while out for a walk at Langus Riverfront Park, I was surprised to find a mansion sitting across the river next to the new FedEx distribution center which was under construction at the Riverview Business Park. If you go there now, the distribution center is finished, and the mansion is still there waiting for a buyer, along with several other houses.

This is to be expected due to the size and price of the mansion as well as the very specific requirements for sale. Nick Carpenter from Nickel Bros told me all about those when he recently took me on a tour. Seeing it empty is cool, of course, but for a good idea of what the mansion might look like once it's moved and furnished, check out the listing.

Touring a 7,000 square foot home was a trip because I started to find uses for rooms that were bigger than entire apartments I've lived in. We climbed a ladder and entered via back stairs into a mother-in-law style unit which would be a great place to host guests, run a business, or have game nights. When we passed through into the main house I was shocked to realize the huge room I was in was the master bedroom.

It has its own deck and fireplace and plenty of room for a seating area as well as any bed ever made, but there's also another living area next to it that's part of the suite. Over in the master bath area with a huge shower and sauna, find the dressing closet of your dreams.

And that's just the upper floor. Downstairs, there's a living room and family room which each have a custom fireplace, and I learned that the living room's fireplace and chimney weigh more than the average house. Two bedrooms downstairs have their own full bathrooms, and there's a formal dining room as well as a more casual eating area in the kitchen. Built-in seating like what you find there can also be found hidden in hallways around the house, meaning there's always a quiet spot to read or relax.

And if you like to cook--or hire a private chef to come do it--the kitchen has everything you could possibly want. A six burner stove and griddle sit above double ovens, and there's a pizza oven in pristine condition off to the side.

So what do you need if you want this house? The most important thing is a piece of waterfront land with room for a home that's 85 feet wide so the mansion can be delivered via barge. Nickel Bros will acquire the moving permits and deliver the house, but you'll need to work with a contractor to lay a foundation ahead of time and reconnect services once the house arrives. (Check the Frequently Asked Questions page on the Nickel Bros site for more info.)

Each customer will have their own reasons for wanting to purchase and move an upcycled home, but the benefit they'll all enjoy is value. The mansion's sale price is $760,000 but has been appraised at $3,200,000. Its future owner might invest about $2,000,000 in the project but in the right place it might sell for twice as much. Instant equity like that makes for a great real estate investment, assuming you have the time and patience for the project. And the money, of course.

Interested in an upcycled home but don't have quite so large a budget? Check out the homes for sale section of their site to see if Nickel Bros has the right home for you.
