Sketchy Everett Vol. 38: Everett AquaSox

I love this! This sketch combines two of my favorite things: Elizabeth Person’s artwork and baseball!

Our family has so many warm memories of nights spent at Giants/AquaSox games. We were season ticket holders for many years and the ballpark was really our summer neighborhood, where we’d catch up with longtime friends. We also had the privilege of hosting one or two players each season and we loved cheering especially hard for our “summer sons.”

If you haven’t been to an AquaSox game yet, don’t miss the chance to experience world-class baseball right here in Everett!

As our community steps up to the plate by safely returning to normal, there are few things that feel more normal than watching an Everett AquaSox game at Funko Field.

After a canceled 2020 season and major structural changes to Minor League Baseball cast a cloud over the future of professional baseball in Everett, the AquaSox came back stronger than ever in 2021. The Seattle Mariners affiliate was promoted from the now-defunct Class A Short Season to Class High-A. This upgrade gives local fans a chance to see a more competitive brand of baseball - and in a full-season format with nearly twice as many home games as previous seasons.

I’ve already attended multiple AquaSox games this season. It’s thrilling to see big league-caliber play from standout ‘Sox like outfielder Julio Rodriguez (currently playing for the Class-AA Arkansas Travelers) and pitcher Emerson Hancock (sixth overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft).

After spending most of the pandemic inside, it’s been a breath of fresh air to be among fellow Everettonians, eating popcorn and singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” amid the sweeping backdrop views of the Cascade Mountains. I plan to spend many summer nights here this season–and beyond. Go Frogs!
