Sketchy Everett Vol. 36: Grand Avenue Park Bridge

Editor’s note: Sketchy Everett is brought to you by Live in Everett Member McClain Insurance. Introductory words by McClain Insurance Founder, Claudia McClain.

The latest volume of Sketchy Everett brings a smile to my face! What a perfect symbol for the new year: a beautiful and innovative new connection in our community. (continued below)

While the pandemic has left many of us feeling distanced from the people and activities we love, the recent opening of the Grand Avenue Park Bridge has expanded how we can explore Everett. Built primarily to carry utility pipes, the one-million-pound steel truss doubles as a passageway that bridges the physical gap between the city’s Northwest neighborhood and the expansive waterfront.

The bridge connects local residents to miles of walking trails, scenic parks and the Port of Everett’s best restaurants and retail spots. Its industrial foundation encases a modern walkway design that perfectly embodies the city’s affinity for both industry and art.

When venturing across the bridge from Grand Avenue Park, I’m met with sweeping views of the Olympic Range, ferries crossing the sound and islands large and small. Having traveled this bridge many times at all hours of the day, I’d say that my favorite time to visit is just before sunset as Naval Station Everett welcomes nightfall with a rendition of “Evening Colors.” It’s a beautiful addition to the city’s north end.

Introduction by Claudia McClain continued…

The long-awaited Grand Avenue Park Bridge links two integral parts of Everett – historic north Everett and our scenic and hard-working waterfront. It offers incredible views in all directions and the perfect vantage point for watching the Port’s Waterfront Place development take shape.

The theme of connection really resonates with me right now. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve all found creative ways to connect with our friends and loved ones. At our agency, we connected with our clients this holiday season by mailing each one a $2 bill (in a card featuring another Elizabeth Person creation!). We were overwhelmed by the thoughtful and generous ways our clients were inspired to use their two-dollar bills to connect with people in need all over the country.

I encourage you to let Elizabeth’s beautiful illustration inspire you to connect – to a friend you haven’t talked to in a while, to someone in need, or to a new part of our incredible city!
