How did you first get started in your craft?

Personal Interest! I've always had a love for any art form. I was in my second year of college and already had it set in my mind that a career in psychology was THE future I had. I still decided that I should take at least one class of Art just to fulfill the need. Little did I know that this art class would stack me with not only fundamentals but the drive to change my entire course of life.

Favorite Artist(s) and/or Inspirations?

The Art Professors at Yakima Valley College: Meghan Flynn and John Bissonette. They are also my favorite artists to look up to.

What’s the most challenging part of being an artist, or something you had to overcome?

Continuous motivation and Inspiration. My life has always been a journey with my mental health. This has created a toll on my ability for creating and finishing art. Sometimes even starting it. A lot of my ideas (and some with the potential to be my greatest) are just notes or raw sketches in a notebook. Our work is a piece of you and if you find you can't finish a piece, you should be proud of the work you have done. A long journey it may be, I may find myself continuously pushing for the love of my art and for the sake of growing.

How can people be supportive of the arts?

First by appreciating and respecting their craft. If you find that you love someone's art enough you can buy a piece or even donate. Another way is by becoming an active supporter by maybe following them on social media or even checking out a few of their shows.

What's next for you?

More Art! I am currently in a waiting season. I have moved from my home town and starting life anew. Making coffee is another love of mine but something that I don't see myself doing forever. This year is a first of putting myself out there. Therefore, continuously taking steps towards making a name for myself so I can share my love and journey as an artist.

Where can people see more of your art?

My website.

Editor’s note: Though Samira does not have a commerce site set up, she is willing to discuss selling her amazing work.
