A Legacy Brewing Since 1898
It all began in 1898 when Sam Bargreen himself started this remarkable company right here in downtown Everett. Can you imagine? More than a century ago, Sam was personally delivering freshly roasted coffee beans to homes and businesses around town, often by horse-drawn wagon! Talk about dedication to your craft and your community.
The Bargreen's story is one of enduring family legacy. The business has been proudly passed down through three generations: from founder Sam, to his son Howard Bargreen (who became a prominent political and social figure in our state!), and now led by his grandson, Howie Bargreen. Each generation has upheld the commitment to quality and the time-honored craftsmanship of roasting gourmet coffees.
In fact, if you've ever driven down Rucker Avenue, you've likely seen their flagship location at 2821 – they've been operating from that very spot since 1910! Think of all the stories and sips those walls could tell.
More Than Just Coffee: A Family Woven into Everett's Fabric
The Bargreen family's impact on Everett extends far beyond coffee. Howard S. Bargreen served over two decades in the Washington State Legislature, including time as a state senator, shaping policies that touched all our lives. His wife, Grace Bargreen, was a true community builder, instrumental in founding key local organizations like the Assistance League in Everett and the Everett Opera Guild. This family didn't just sell coffee; they helped build the very fabric of our city. They even took their passion for hospitality to a global stage, operating concessions at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair and the 1964 New York World's Fair!
