Thai Valley: A Boeing Food Court Oasis

On one of those recent sunny, rainy, sunny, wintery days; my clothes were soaked to the skin and did not have it in me to fix dinner. We made plans to order out, put PJs on and watch a movie.

I placed a phone order with Thai Valley, one of the restaurants in the Boeing Food Court that I’ve been wanting to try. When I stepped into the restaurant just after 5 p.m. to pick up my food, I wish I had changed out of my wet clothes and opted to dine in.

The place is beautiful and inviting and obviously empty since my family is on the senior-living early bird dinner schedule. It’s not what you’d expect in the Boeing Food Court catering to people coming and going for quick lunches.

I can probably do without the big screen, but I’ll definitely be planning a date night to Thai Valley soon.

It was just my son and me for dinner that night. Pad thai is my most favorite thing from a Thai restaurant so that’s what I ordered. I make my own pad thai at home, only sometimes, because it is a whole lot of work. And the noodles are tricky. They have to be softened in hot tap water so that they are pliable but don’t stick together. I once got a blob of sticky pad thai from a spot in Mukilteo and haven’t been back.

I should note that I ordered pad thai (Thai style) with a traditional tamarind sauce. Thai Valley also offers a sweet and sour sauce option. I’m not sure ketchup belongs in pad thai though.

I like a little heat but not a lot. I’m used to 5-star scales and I usually get 2 stars. Thai Valley had 1-star mild, 2-star medium and 3-star spicy. I ordered a 2-star medium

Because we took our food to go and they were in tight containers, we had to do a little fluffing of the noodles, but nothing stuck together. I was a little puzzled because there was a lemon on the side. I think it was a simple error and luckily I had fresh lime on hand. If you’ve never squeezed fresh lime on your pad thai you’re missing out.

I also ordered fresh rolls. You know, salad in a rice wrapper. I picked the shrimp option but only noticed a few pieces of shrimp. The lettuce and other vegetables were fresh and crisp. The peanut sauce on the side was delicious. My son didn’t like the fresh rolls. Just as well, more for me.

I ordered pad see ew with chicken for my son because he loves broccoli and I wanted some wide rice noodles. He said it was the best broccoli he’d ever had. That’s something coming from a 13-year-old.

If you’re wondering how I did with my fireball pad thai, I ate about half and then managed to finish off the rest the next day after reheating it in the oven. It was still delicious. And still very hot.

I’ll be heading back to Thai Valley to dine in. I plan to wear dry clothes and order 1 star. They have an extensive curry menu and more noodle dishes for me to try. Wine, beer and yummy Thai drinks like Thai iced tea are on the menu too.
