Great Food with a Side of Memories: Luna Mexican Grill

Long ago, I was fortunate to spend one of my semesters at college in Guadalajara, Mexico. My best friend and I loaded on a bus and rode from South Center Shopping Mall clear to Guadalajara. We attended classes there, studied Spanish, got our own apartment and plunged into the wonderful Mexican culture. And one of the cool things we discovered was street tacos. You would order several small tacos, squeeze some lime on them, and pop a radish in your mouth as the finisher. It is some great memories.
And now, right here in Everett, without leaving town, I can recapture the memories (minus the radishes) at Luna Mexican Grill on Evergreen.
I can't take any credit for discovering this fun place. It's all thanks to a friend (thank you, Heather!) who was out with her girlfriends and thought it would be a great place for Live in Everett to cover. So, I grabbed some of my own peeps, and sure enough, she was right, Luna has lots to talk about.

Their menu includes all the regular items you expect to find on a Mexican menu in America. The surprise is that it also had a lot of things that were unexpected. For instance, I had a loaded Mexican baked potato - the Papa Mexicana - for dinner. Super caloric and super yum. None of us had either of these, but they have a seven fishes soup (Caldo 7 Mares) and an appetizer of Mexican street corn. Those are on my next-time-I-visit list. My brother-in-law had a delicious rich stew of meat and beans that he would order again and our other two diners went with shrimp dishes where the shrimp were seasoned well and not overcooked or rubbery as seafood can get.

Much of the fun, though, is out in the parking lot where the street tacos are literally being made on the street. You can order one or plenty more to eat in or take out. My one recommendation to Luna would be to play them up more! Add a page into the menu about them or table signage or even a banner out at the street. By the time we figured it out, we were so full and could only handle one - but it was delicious!

I am an everyday fan of Mexican food. It always seems to come with a dose of a good time what with its chips and salsa and margaritas and generally friendly service. I go in smiling and come out smiling. But Luna offers a little bit extra. Some fun new things to explore on its menu, a new experience in its parking lot and a big dose of memories for this gringa. Gracias Luna!
