Hewitt's Newest Flavor Purveyor: Noodle Nation

The corner of Hewitt and Pine has always had great dining choices, and I was excited the last time I was there in November to see a new place opening soon. I couldn't find much information about Noodle Nation at the time, but made plans with my friend Kristen to check it out when it opened.

The space is take-out and delivery oriented, with only eight seats but a lot of room to wait for your order.

The menu is a beautifully simple array of six complex dishes to choose from, three broth-based and three sauce-based. They call this the core selection and it's a great place to start on your first visit.

Off to the side, the whiteboard lists your options for building your own bowl, plus the day's specials, which were chili and an amazing-sounding sandwich. To build a bowl, pick a noodle style, add a broth or a sauce, then add toppings. Note that all toppings are available as side orders.

I picked Cheung Li, an incredible lamb and pork ragu over chewy noodle balls. It's a small dish, but very rich and filling, with deeply-developed meat flavor that stands up very well to the large, tangy chunks of pickle. I also tried a few bites with the house chili oil and chimichurri, both of which worked very well with the ragu.

Kristen had the Millennial Special, a huge bowl of seasonal vegetable shreds taking the place of noodles with an Asian herb dressing. It also has a fermented vegetable medley, large crispy sesame puffs, and half a grilled avocado. It's an awesome choice if you're not in the mood for meat but still want something big and satisfying.

After we parted ways I was home doing yard work, cold and getting soaked in the rain. Even though I wasn't hungry, I found myself daydreaming about my next trip to Noodle Nation to try their broth options. Soon.
