Simply Exceptional: The Muse Whiskey & Coffee Opens in Historic Weyerhaeuser Building

The Muse Whiskey & Coffee officially cut the ribbon for last month's grand opening.

If you haven’t been yet, you’re in for a treat.

You can't go wrong whether you go for morning coffee or evening drinks.

The Muse is the much-anticipated tenant of the historic Weyerhaeuser Building. The building just turned 100 this year. Initially, the space was the headquarters of the Everett-based mill, with a massive vault to prove it (our bartender, TJ, said Weyerhaeuser at one point was the 8th richest person in the world).

Inside the vault: makes the perfect place for storage lockers.

Believe it or not, the historic building has been moved twice before. The most recent was before the Grand Avenue bridge was built a few years back, and the community gathered to watch the move from Grand Avenue Park.

Admittedly, watching the building be moved was a very slow process, like watching paint dry.

Stepping inside the building's history, though, only stones a throw from the water's edge, the move was so worth it.

The building is an experience in itself, making this quite a special place. Placards can be found around the space with QR codes to scan to delve deeper into the history of the building, including one of America’s most famous kidnapping stories.

We’ll leave that for you to discover more on your own.

Morning coffee is available at The Muse from 7 am - 4 pm. From lattes to Macciato’s and classic drip, you’ll find all the regular quality coffee options you’d expect. Including various teas, sandwiches, bagels, baked goods, and more.

The Coffee Bar

You can even order right on their website if you’re in a hurry or want to explore all of your options ahead of time.

The ambiance of the space is like nothing in Everett. The furniture and decor perfectly accent the historic space.

With an array of different seating rooms gorgeously designed to choose from. Hand-laid tapestries adorn the walls on the off chance you don’t have a stunning water view.

There is also a conference room available for $20 / hour with an advanced reservation.

4 pm is when The Muse transforms from their morning coffee menu to their speak-easy style whiskey bar. While reservations are the norm for the bar, we randomly meandered in after a Jetty Island excursion, and after a brief wait, they were still able to seat us at the bar.

The cocktails were amazing.

The Dark Walnut + Smugglers Cove cocktails

The Dark Walnut, comprised of Irish Whiskey, walnut, pistachio, agave nectar, and espresso, was like a cocktail, dessert, and coffee all elegantly rolled up into one.

My drinking-mate enjoyed his Rum-based Smugglers Cove alongside his parmesan zucchini sticks with spiced breading, baked and served with dill creme fraiche. I may have snuck a few bites, and it definitely made me excited to try more of their food.

With a small, but delicious-sounding food offerings, the Muse offers bone marrow, a charcuterie board, Asian-inspired lamb chops, smoked salmon nuggets, and more.

We would say go for the water views and stunning ambiance and stay for the delicious drinks and eats. But really, no excuse is needed for a good muse, and Everett’s The Muse Whiskey & Coffee is no exception.

It's simply exceptional.
