Sol Food is Back as Delicious as Ever, and Now Carry-able

After a bit of a hiatus, Sol Food, Everett’s favorite Latin American Restaurant, is back open! With a twist.

In case you didn’t already know, Sol Food moved out of their original location a while back. January 15, 2021, Sol Food shared on social media: “We’re moving! Although we aren’t sure where yet.”

While the restaurant's future remained uncertain for some time, they’ve officially opened their new doors. Err.. well, half door, I suppose?

You may recall Christopher Bragg’s article about Black Lab Gallery’s new space last year. The article mentioned that Black Lab’s new building, “features a kitchen with a take-out window that opens to the sidewalk.”

Well, that take-out window on the sidewalk is now home to Sol Food! And Sol Food is actually no longer Sol Food Bar & Grill, but is now officially Sol Food Express.

As Sol Food shared on their website, “Sol Food has changed in structure a bit to shift with changing times.”

They go on to share, “We will still be creating foods with the made-from-scratch-ethos we had before, just in a more carry-able way.”

And it also sounds like Sol Food is eventually planning to add delivery to their offerings.

I stopped by recently to check out their soft opening. It was great seeing Sol Food’s logo shining once again on Hewitt Avenue. Right there alongside Black Lab Gallery’s new space. How exciting!

While the menu was different it looked as delicious as ever. It does sound like they’re planning to rotate the menu, but their current offerings cater to a wide variety of diets, including what my partner-in-yum, Christy Larson, ordered. The Fajita Bowl with vegan chorizo, which was a vegetarian dish.

Served up over yellow rice with black beans, sauteed peppers and onions, cheddar-jack cheese (Vegan Shreds available) pico de gallo and chips. If you like to eat the rainbow, you will love this colorful dish. Christy sure did. She thought the vegan chorizo, “was delicious and something I’ve never seen before. Staff recommendation that was a hit. Would def get again.”

Similarly, I went for a vegetarian option with the vegan chorizo, but I got the burrito, which came stuffed with cheddar-jack cheese, black beans, sauteed onion, red pepper, poblano pepper and pico de gallo.

As I look at the online menu now, I see the burrito even has ‘no charge add’ options including rice, lettuce, pickled onion, and pickled jalapeno. I’ll have to remember that for next time. Though it certainly wasn’t needed. My burrito was fantastic. Remarkably flavorful, just like what you’d expect from Sol. I was also glad I got the vegan chorizo, it was really delicious. Tender and juicy.

It worked really well eating inside Black Lab Gallery. While we waited for our food to be made we grabbed a couple drinks from Black Lab’s bar. A Negroni and a Limited Edition IPA by Fort George, which both went great with our delicious meal.

A perfect pair.

Kind of like Black Lab and Sol Food. Complimenting each other to help increase the overall vibrancy of Everett.

Kudos to Sol Food for creatively adapting into their next best fit. It’s good to have you back.
