Oishi Teriyaki for Take-Out and Leftovers and Leftovers...

Editor’s Note: Originally published December 9, 2020.

Oishi Teriyaki has been a long time favorite in my household. Even before they won Everett’s best Teriyaki in 2017 and 2019

Contrary to my Live in Everett TV track record, my family doesn’t eat out frequently. We think of ourselves as frugal. Others call it cheap. But if we’re talking about Oishi Teriyaki, I think we can all agree, it’s simply solid all around.

Oishi has quite a large menu, but we almost always get the tried and true: Chicken Teriyaki. I prefer the spicy, it adds a nice kick without being too much. My wife, Queen Esther goes for the regular chicken teriyaki, and our toddler likes that one, too. So that makes things easy.

Especially considering how massive the portions are. They fill an entire container with a huge bed of rice, a little side salad in the corner, topped with a heaping mass of chicken. It comes with a side of teriyaki sauce and salad dressing. I almost always run out of sauce, so I should probably start asking for extra.

Nevertheless, for about $10 it’s a remarkable amount of food. I usually get 3-4 meals out of mine, which is why I feel it’s such great value. Granted I may eat smaller portions than the average person, but here are some of the ways I like to plate mine up.

Of course it’s most delicious when it’s the most fresh. So the first meal, I just like to plate and mix everything together- chicken, rice, I tear up a few salad pieces to throw in, and I add some teriyaki sauce and the salad dressing. I really enjoy all its fresh delicious glory blended together.

The next day, I like to mix things up and throw some Oishi leftovers into something bready, like a nice burger bun. Shout-out to Teriyaki Burger Stop for inspiring me to first realize how great teriyaki tastes in burger format. Again, I like to put a little of everything on there, rice included. But hey, do you. Burger buns can get a little messy. A hoagie or french roll that’s still attached on one side can work great for keeping your fillings from falling out.

Okay, if you’re like me and still have leftovers, now it’s crunch time. Both because, even in Tupperware, you don’t want your leftovers sitting too long, and because adding salad greens and some crunchy cabbage works great, too! I always find fixing it up as more of a salad feels healthier and refreshing after just having recently eaten teriyaki for multiple meals the previous days.

So that’s why I feel Oishi is absurdly good value. I believe they transferred to new ownership within recent months, but everything seems to remain the same. Same great prices, quality food, and service.

Though it’s important to note, Oishi is only a pickup window with a couple small outdoor tables. I highly recommend calling your order in ahead of time. It usually only takes about 15 minutes or so for them to have your food ready.

Give Oishi a try. You just may find a new family favorite.
