“Lunchfest” at Cup & Crêpe

One of my favorite things is getting stuck in the Kingston ferry line. The reason is that I have time to enjoy a savory crêpe from J'aime Les Crêpes Crêperie. I've been getting stuck in Kingston and eating crêpes for years now; that is the only time I eat them.

So, I was pleased to learn about Cup & Crêpe opening in south Everett, about five minutes from my house.

My lunch buddy is on summer break, so we stopped for a "lunchfest," which is lunch for me and breakfast for him since he sleeps in so late, as teens do. Cup & Crêpe was the perfect place for lunchfest because they have savory crêpes I love and something on the sweeter side to please the 13-year-old.

Parking was easy, and the shop is spacious, welcoming and filled with many seating options, including a long line of chairs at a window bar. I especially loved the artwork by Edmonds artist Julie Steed. You’ll quickly spot that there is a gnome theme. There’s one in the business logo, Walter by the front counter and little gnomes hidden throughout the restaurant.

Owner Teresa Godfrey and her partner Sandra Reichstetter greeted me with smiles, and I met Frodo, the cute pug. He's been having difficulty with his moms leaving him at home, so now he gets to go to work too.

I ordered The Picnic with spinach, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella, fresh parmesan, and fresh pepper because I love every single one of those ingredients. It was steaming hot and delicious, and I ate every last bite.

My son ordered the Flower Child with peaches, house granola, bavarian cream, and whipped cream. I steered him in that direction because it had breakfast-like ingredients like fruit and granola. The Bike Trail might have been another good option with peanut butter, banana, house granola, honey and whipped cream. He also had an Italian blueberry soda. There was not a single word out of him as he was busy eating. He gave it five stars and said he'd eat it again. That's all we're getting from him.

I loved the sleeves the crêpes are served in. I have a love-hate thing with the Kingston crêpes because they are served on flimsy paper plates, and there are never enough napkins to contain the mess. Cup and Crêpe expertly fold the crêpes and slip them into a cleaver sleeve that you fold down when you're ready to eat. It also has perforated lines to tear to help you get every last bite.

You can have all but one type of crêpe made gluten-free and there are vegan and plant-based "meat" options to add on.

I was disappointed that they don't open until 10:00 a.m., but they are looking to hire so they can open earlier and stay open a little later. This will be great for those who want a coffee shop experience in the south end and for those who want to grab some food to take to Soundbite Cider and Crucible Brewing which are located in the same parking lot.
