Das Bratmobile Is on Their Wurst Behavior at the Beverly Food Truck Park

Named after the creek that runs through their property in Arlington, Fish Creek Ranch German Food Specialities owns and runs Das Bratmobile. They get around so there is a chance you have seen them at the Everett Food Truck Festival, the Beverly Food Truck Park, Scuttlebutt Taproom, or Crucible Brewing. Outside of Everett, you may have seen them feeding the Marysville Sheriff’s office or the medical personnel at Skagit Regional Health and Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington, they've even attended fundraisers for Heartstrings for Horses.

Das Bratmobile is the wurst // Rachel Weatherholt

Brother and sister Ferdi and Uschi moved to the US in the early 1990s from a town called Pirmasens in Rheinland-Pfalz, the western state of Germany. A laborer by trade, Ferdi’s passion for cooking started at a very young age. He and his sister wanted to do something fun with food in their spare time. Deciding against turning their acreage into a wine and beer tasting room, they set out to create a food truck. Das Bratmobile is actually a food trailer but it is a trailer built from the siblings’ blood, sweat, and tears. Buying something pre-built to serve food was too expensive so the pair designed their perfect trailer and Ferdi went to work. After many months of permit and license processes, they were finally able to hit the road.

They serve homemade German burgers called Frikadelle, German-style potato salad, and Schnitzel. Along with the homemade items, they serve a variety of sausages from Uli’s Famous Sausages including smoked, jalapeno cheddar, currywurst, and polish.

Their Frikadelle (German burger) is a blend of pork and beef and is incredibly juicy and flavorful. Add on your choice of condiments (hello, garlic aioli!!!) and toppings and you have an amazing burger experience. The bun is light and soft but serves more as a vessel to get that delicious burger into your belly; it is definitely not the star of the show.

If you like potato salad, you will love Ferdi’s. It’s a German-style, mayo-based salad with bacon and has an addictive tanginess. It is handmade before every outing and it is usually the first thing they run out of.

Their brats come with your choice of an array of delicious mustards and sauerkraut and are perfectly cooked: juicy on the inside with a casing that has a satisfying snap when you bite into it. They are minimum 3-napkin brats.

If you prefer schnitzel, you have options! The Jagerschnitzel is breaded pork schnitzel bathed in a delicious mushroom gravy, served with fries or potato salad: ultimate comfort food. Or you can get a schnitzel sandwich with your choice of condiments and toppings.

Whatever your stomach decides on, you will not be disappointed.

Before I go I will share with you one more reason to love Das Bratmobile: after every event, any leftover food goes to their local food bank so nothing goes to waste. Good food, great people, and a desire to give back to their communities.

Uschi regularly posts their schedule on their Facebook page or you can hunt them down on their Street Food Finder page.

In fall of 2020, the city of Everett partnered with the Washington State Food Truck Association to use the empty lot in the northeast corner of Madison and Beverly Boulevard as a food truck park. The park is open from the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is in a convenient location to drop in and pick up dinner, no matter which direction you are coming from or heading to. The park has been growing in popularity and is regularly served by Das Bratmobile, Paparepas, Big Red Truck, and The Ultimate Melt. Check out the Beverly Food Truck Park schedule for dates and more details on each truck.
