History Made: Housing Hits the Everett Waterfront for the First Time Ever

May 26, 2021 was a historical day in Everett. The ribbon was cut to officially celebrate the opening of the new Waterfront Place apartments. This marks the first housing ever on the Everett Waterfront.

At the time of the ribbon-cutting event, 19 residents had already moved in. The 135 unit building, named “The Sawyer”, is 55% leased. Its 131 unit sister-building next door, “The Carling”, is still under construction after a devastating fire last year.

Housing on the Everett Waterfront is no stranger to obstacles.

Port of Everett CEO Lisa Lefeber remarked during the ceremony at the ribbon-cutting event, she remembered being at the 2007 ceremony that took place for a different housing project that was set to be constructed back then. But those initial plans to bring housing to the Everett waterfront 14 years ago were derailed after the 2008 recession hit.

This time, things are different. It’s happening. It’s here.

The Sawyer’s large roof-top terrace is filled with smiling faces overlooking the Everett marina. The Sawyer has high-end finishes. Spacious seating surrounds the fireplace in the lobby.

Upstairs, you’ll find the ‘Bootlegger’ speakeasy bar and game room. The game room features a pool, darts, shuffleboard, and Pac-Man. There’s also a workout center and yoga studio. Secure bike storage with a repair center. And an on-site concierge.

Prices start at $1,425/month for a 569 sq ft. studio apartment.

A two-bedroom two-bathroom unit was staged and open for viewing during the event. The 1,033 square foot unit was among the largest in the building. These larger units start at $3,200/month, but if you include a terrace with water view, you’ll pay closer to $4,500/month.

Luxury ain’t cheap, but it sure is pretty.

During the opening remarks at the ceremony, Port officials also shared about more restaurants and businesses that they’ll be breaking ground for next year as the 65-acre Waterfront Place continues to develop.

One such restaurant that was recently announced is Fisherman Jack’s. “A new Asian-inspired restaurant will offer a fun, vibrant and family-friendly dining experience with a full-service bar and outdoor patio dining area. It will feature Chinese cuisine with regional seafood in Dim Sum and noodle dishes,” a press release from the Port of Everett shared.

"We are looking forward to this great partnership with the Port of Everett,” said Jack Ng, Owner of China City LLC, which owns and operates several popular restaurants in the Oak Harbor, Freeland and Mill Creek areas.

As Waterfront Place continues to grow, will more housing on the Everett waterfront be in store? Quite possibly. But this will always be the first.
