Discovering Culinary Artistry at 16Eleven: A Feast for the Senses

When it comes to dining, I'm always on the lookout for unique experiences that tantalize both the taste buds and the soul. My recent visit to 16Eleven, located within the APEX Art & Culture Center, promised precisely that—a fusion of art, history, and culinary excellence. Here's my delightful journey through this extraordinary restaurant.

A Fusion of Art and Gastronomy

16Eleven's location within the APEX Art & Culture Center sets the stage for a truly distinctive dining adventure. Housed in the historic Masonic Temple in Everett's Central District, the restaurant seamlessly marries the old-world charm of this architectural gem with the contemporary flair of graffiti art and music.

The Culinary Artistry of Chef Joel Childs

Chef Joel Childs, the culinary maestro behind 16Eleven's creations, masterfully crafts dishes that challenge the ordinary. His dedication to pushing culinary boundaries is evident in every bite.

For our appetizer, we couldn't resist trying the Ahi Sushi Tacos. These bite-sized wonders featured delicate wontons cradling fresh sushi rice, drizzled with a sweet chili mayo and topped with ginger and sesame. The flavors danced on my palate, and the blend of textures was nothing short of exquisite. At just $18, this dish is a steal for the culinary experience it offers.

Crafting Cocktails that Challenge Convention

16Eleven's cocktail menu is as artfully curated as its culinary offerings. I embarked on a cocktail journey that defied convention and delighted the senses.

My first choice was the "Sorry I'm Latte" at $17, a complex concoction of Ketel One Vodka, Cold Brew, Borghetti Espresso Liqueur, Montenegro Amaro, Demerara, Salt Lemon Oil. It was a masterful blend of flavors, with the coffee notes from the cold brew and espresso liqueur harmonizing beautifully with the subtle bitterness of the amaro. The Demerara syrup added a hint of sweetness, while the salt lemon oil provided a delightful citrusy finish. This cocktail was a work of art in a glass, a true testament to the creativity behind 16Eleven's bar.

My second choice, the "Roly-Poleo" at $14, was a revelation. Crafted with Plantation 3 Stars White Rum, Grapefruit & Blood Orange Oleo Saccharum, Homemade Grenadine, and Lime, it was a tropical symphony. The bright and zesty citrus flavors played in perfect harmony with the rum's rich undertones. The homemade grenadine added a touch of sweetness, while the overall composition was balanced to perfection. It was a cocktail that transported me to a sun-soaked beach, even within the artistic confines of 16Eleven.

Main Course Marvels

Moving on to the main course, we opted for the Herb-Crusted Salmon. Priced at $41, it might seem like a splurge, but every mouthful justified the expense. The salmon arrived with a bacon gastrique, which added a delightful smoky-sweet note, complemented by velvety pomme purée. It was a harmony of flavors and textures, a true testament to Chef Childs' culinary prowess.

For those seeking a more casual but equally delectable option, the 16Eleven Fish and Chips is a must-try at $22. The haddock was tender and flaky, encased in a crisp golden batter. Paired with fries and tartar sauce, it's a classic dish elevated to perfection.
