Rack 'Em Up in Downtown Everett's New Pool Hall

In Greek mythology, a golden fleece is symbolic of authority and kingship.

Golden Fleece Billiards recently opened in the same spot on Colby as the old Majestic Cafe, and the atmosphere there still lends itself to something of majesty.

Customers can expect high ceilings, two floors of tables to choose from, a polished brass-lined bar, forest green leather benches, and choice music playing in the background. 12 pool tables, leveled and blue, glow under low-hanging lamps. At an average bar, you will typically see eight-foot tables.

But “The Fleece” is not your average bar.

If you ask me, it is what Everett has been missing.

New to town from Lake City Way in Seattle, Golden Fleece offers top-notch seven and nine-foot tables. So why no eight-foot tables like the ones I’m accustomed to? I asked a staff member and learned a few things: seven-foot tables are used down in Vegas at the BCAPL National Championships, and nine-foot tables are what you see professionals play on TV.

They are serious about their pool—they’ll be holding qualifying tournaments at Golden Fleece in the near future.

This new hall is not just for royal pool sharks, though. Maybe you’re more of a “guppie” when it comes to billiards, and that’s just fine too. No need to be intimidated. At Golden Fleece you rent the tables at five dollars per person, per hour of play. There are no quarters necessary, and no need to challenge a stranger at a bar. You can finally get a table to yourself for a chance to practice those tricky bank shots, or bring a buddy and play best-out-of-ten, uninterrupted.

“We wanted it to be a place that all ages, races, and genders are welcome,” Vance Richardson, owner of Golden Fleece, said.

Pool is a pastime for everyone to enjoy.
