A Fizzy and Flavorful First: Soundbite Cider on Everett Mall Way

There's no denying that summer 2019 was a big moment for hard seltzer, but hard cider's moment started years ago and hasn't slowed down. It's a refreshing alternative to beer, wine and liquor, and with three out of every four apples grown in the US coming from Washington, it's not surprising to find cideries popping up alongside breweries and wineries all over the state.

You can find Everett's first cidery, Soundbite Cider, in a business park on Everett Mall Way.

How did Robert and Regina Fontaine end up brewing cider here? Robert loved brewing his own beer, but Regina preferred the ciders she had in England, so they made both. Cider was clearly their calling, so after Robert retired, he cashed in his 401k to build their business.

Soundbite's ciders are more traditional; they're not sweet and the spicy and fruity flavors come through on the back end. You don't have to arrive knowing what you like, either. Try a flight of five flavors for $12, then enjoy your favorite in pints or one of two sizes of tulip glasses. You can also grab a growler or crowler (a large can they can fill and seal) to take home. Everything's fresh and delicious made on site.

As with most alcohol-related businesses, it took a long time to get the tasting room open to the public. The timing was good, though, because the salon space next door became available shortly after and they're taking it over. The Fontaines love music and the expansion will include a stage for live acts.

Soundbite's a great spot to hang out with friends and play games, knit, or even eat. They don't serve food, but you're allowed to bring your own. Grab takeout from Basil or Cajun Crawfish, or a sandwich from Trader Joe's if you want to save a few bucks.
