Sno-Isle Food Co-op Celebrates 25 Years

You know the Co-op - Everett’s favorite organic grocer. With its endearing creaky wood floors. Fresh healthy food. Delicious deli. Hub for community. And outrageously friendly staff.

Well, they just turned 25 years young, and you’re invited to join in on the fun. But first, check out these fun facts we learned from the Co-op about their history:

  • The Co-op is Member Owned and began in 1996 with just 50 like-minded individuals (they now have 9,000 Members!).

  • In 1991, before the Co-op began, Seattle-based Puget Consumers Co-op (PCC) opened a store in south Everett that didn’t go well and closed in 1995. The original 50 folks that started the Co-op were from that previous PCC group.

  • The Co-op has remained in its original location, though the store has increased in size over the years going from 4,000 sqft to 9,000 sqft in 1999.

  • The Co-op was the first cooperative grocery store to ever be awarded a B Corporation® Certification (oh yeah, Richard Porter wrote a story about that!).

  • From the beginning, the Co-op leaned on community engagement to help spread the word. They even had shopping cart drill teams in the Salty Sea Days parade!

Speaking of community engagement, the Co-op has some great ways to join in on celebrating 25 years.

If you’re already a Co-op Owner you have a one-time 10% off coupon automatically added to your account for use anytime this month (March 2022). And if you’re not a Co-op Owner yet, get on it! Ownerships are affordable and come with a bunch of benefits. And you get to buy one of those cool t-shirts that say, “I Own A Grocery Store with My Friends.”

Have a favorite memory of the Co-op? They’d love to hear your story.

Lastly, The Co-op is planning an outdoor celebration in downtown Everett, and they want you to come party! Mark your calendar for Sunday, July 17, 2022 to join in on the fun.

With a never-ending rotation of events always happening in the Co-op community classroom, the way they support local farmers and help bring a bit more health to our community, we’re sure thankful to have you here in Everett, Sno-Isle Food Co-op!

Congrats on 25 years, here’s to 25 more!
