Downtown Everett’s Newest Hot Spot: Frying Lemon Fish

Downtown Everett’s restaurant options just added a tasty dose of Chinese food to the menu.

Frying Lemon Fish opened their doors last month (just down the block from EI Bar & Stage on Colby), and we were delighted to undertake some taste testing.

The clean and inviting space was perfectly complemented by the complimentary tea to get things started.

The menu is large with lots of options. Most options come as a plate full of the specific item with no sides, which makes sharing multiple plates ideal. 

Before we could pinpoint our meal strategy, we were delighted to be offered complimentary egg rolls since it was our first visit (we visited shortly after the grand opening). 

The kind woman offering the egg rolls turned out to be the owner, Lucy. And our server, Eric, was Lucy’s nephew. 

Lucy and Eric shared with us about their family business and how they started with the first location in Bellevue nearly 11 years ago. The Bellevue location is called Frying Fish. The new Frying Lemon Fish marks their 2nd location, and they are delighted to be providing Everett with traditional Chinese food (as opposed to Hong Kong style); something they saw lacking in the area.

We were extra grateful to chat with Lucy and Eric, who were happy to help point out recommendations on the large menu. 

Some of the fish dishes are their most popular (hence the name Frying Lemon Fish). We got one order of Chopped Peppers Hot Fish and one order of Deep Fried Fish. As well as tofu, brown rice, and green beans. It was quite the glorious mix, and I did enjoy adding a little bit of everything to my plate and mixing it all together in glorious bites of yum. 

Sharing plates and enjoying a more interactive meal was fun, ideal for a meal with others. 

My taste-testing teammate devoured his plate quickly and shared with me afterward that he thought, “The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the food was good with generous portions.”

The portions were large enough for me to save a bit of leftover for lunch the next day. 

I found the spicy fish to have a very light spice level until I finally included a piece of red pepper in one of my bites. Wow, that turned up the heat fast. 

I was glad we had gotten a nice mix of options. The fish could have used some sauce, but the tofu had plenty of flavor and sauce, so mixing everything together helped elevate the tastiness.

Overall it was a great experience. We’re happy to see a new quality establishment sharing its deliciousness with Everett.
