Join us for a screening of Matewan in commemoration of the Everett Massacre Centennial. Introduction by branch manager and film scholar Alan Jacobson!

Matewan is based on the true story of the 1920 coal miners' strike in Matewan, West Virginia, where local officials, striking miners, and strikebreakers combined to oppose the brutal tactics of detectives hired by the mining company. Chris Cooper and James Earl Jones star. (R, John Sayles, 1987, 135 min.)

This screening is part of Evergreen Cinema Society's Labor on the Silver Screen, a 4-week series depicting labor on film, each introduced by an expert.
