Everett Rallies Against Hate: A Response to Charlottesville

Hundreds gathered today at the Snohomish County Courthouse Plaza in peaceful protest in response to the tragedy that occurred last week in Charlottesville.

If you're not familiar with what happened in Charlottesville last week, I recommend watching the below documentary. I should warn you, this video is difficult to watch. Ironically, that's why it's important.

On Saturday hundreds of white nationalists, alt-righters, and neo-Nazis traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia to participate in the "Unite the Right" rally. By Saturday evening three people were dead - one protester, and two police officers - and many more injured.

It has never been so clear that racism and white supremacy are still a serious problem in our society in 2017.

Todays 'Rally Against Hate' was organized by the Snohomish County NAACP.

Officials from Snohomish County and the City of Everett government spoke, as well as many members from the community. Many people shared how broken hearted they were by what happened in Charlottesville. Others echoed they had not seen such horrible displays of racism since the 1960's.

Here's just a small re-cap video of the event.

The NAACP Snohomish County held a rally against hate at the Snohomish County Plaza today.

You can watch the entire rally on the NAACP Snohomish Counties Facebook page. Thank you to the NAACP for hosting the event, and thanks to everyone who came out. It was great seeing so many from our community come together in love.
