Everett Improv: Now Open on Colby with a Door and a Bathroom

Everett Improv is officially open with a brand new venue on Colby. They kicked things off Friday, January 14, 2022 with their “Grand Re-Showpening.” And grand it was! The only thing the sold-out show was packed with more fully than masked people were laughs!

Okay, well they had their kegs and fridge pretty well packed with beer and wine as well. Heck, they had popcorn. Snacks. All of the goodies that come with a great night of laughs.

As Everett Improv joked about their new space in their event promo, “We finally have our own door and bathroom!!” Upon further investigation, I am happy to confirm these claims were not jokes, but are indeed true!

Improv extraordinaire and owner behind Everett Improv, Britney Barber kicked the night off with a short inaugural speech, pointing out the weirdo responsible for there being a baby in the bar was her because she and her wife recently added a baby to their family! Apparently, there was more to celebrate than just a new location. What a pleasant surprise!

In addition to Britney, the show featured one other actor, the very talented Glen Bristow. Both Glen and Britney brought phenomenally vibrant and creative energy as they committed to each role.

The show started as fast as the first suggestions started flying! As soon as Britney asked for a word, “rock” was slung and caught quickly and the show was cruising at high speed all the way through. Well, minus the intermission to stock up on more goodies. But you get the idea.

Other fast-flying suggestions from the audience included pairing up a gerbil and hippo. Grandma and Dungeons and Dragons. And then there was the bible princess turned sodium princess (something related to a Sodom and Gomorrah reference, if memory serves). Just to name a few.

Britney’s and Glen’s skill at which they committed to each suggestion with such quick-witted humor was remarkable. One of my favorite lines from the opening scene was, “Sorrow is hot.” Things got much weirder after that. But let’s face it, the weird quirky roles the audience decides for the actors is half the fun! Every suggestion was acted out as if Britney and Glen had been rehearsing it for weeks.

Not a single inch of the stage was safe from their uncontainable antics.

Knowing Britney has been working on building the local improv scene in Everett for quite some time now, I asked how she was feeling about the new space.

“I am feeling like Jack from the titanic but I don't die because Everett made room for me on the door. The last couple of years have been less than fun being the most nonessential business in the world. So it's pretty magical that the people of Everett not only supported Everett Improv through the trials of a pandemic and a basement unit inside a locked building, but have now welcomed us onto Colby like Jack welcomes Rose after she dies. But again... no one is dying.”

So there you have it. Not only does Everett Improv have an awesome new venue, but no one is dying. Take that pandemic, things are looking up already.

When you’re ready to upgrade the laughter in your life, sign up for classes to improv yourself, or catch a show. What do you have to lose? No one is dying and there’s a bathroom.
