Doors open at 6 p.m. for social hour, and the awards program starts at 7 p.m.

Richard & Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence
The Richard & Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence is given annually to a person or organization that has demonstrated outstanding support of the arts throughout their lifetime. The award is named for Dr. Richard Wendt, who passed away in 2007, and his wife Nancy Wendt, who passed away in the spring of 2021. Following Nancy’s death, the decision was made by the Cultural Arts Commission – with the support of Richard and Nancy’s daughters – to rename the award to include Nancy’s name. From here forward, this lifetime achievement award will be known as the Richard and Nancy Wendt Award of Excellence to honor the legacy of these two remarkable people.

Mayors Arts Awards
The Mayor's Arts Awards recognize the many ways a vibrant arts community is created and sustained. Each year, the Cultural Arts Commission gives out several Mayor's Arts Awards to people or organizations that have made Everett a better place through their creative efforts, vision, or patronage.

Color Storm! Yarn Bombing the Arboretum

Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is about to undergo a vibrant transformation as it plays host to "Color Storm," an exhilarating yarn bombing event set to inject bursts of color and creativity throughout the serene landscape. This initiative, organized by Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens and Great Yarns of Everett, promises to captivate visitors and infuse the tranquil setting with a riot of hues and textures as the final event celebrating the Arboretum’s 60th year.

Yarn bombing, the art of adorning public spaces with knitted or crocheted yarn creations, will take center stage as local artists and enthusiasts unite to weave a tapestry of imagination within the lush confines of Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens. Tree trunks will will serve as a canvas for this unique form of artistic expression, and yarn pom poms will hang from limbs. And after the event all yarns will be recycled.

"We are thrilled to invite the community to experience the magic of Color Storm," said Eileen Simmons, President of Evergreen Arboretum. "This event celebrates the intersection of nature and creativity, inviting people of all ages to engage with their surroundings in a playful and meaningful way."

Color Storm is not just about brightening up the landscape; it's also an opportunity for local knitters and crocheters to showcase their talents and foster a sense of community spirit. Participants have been diligently crafting intricate yarn installations, each one destined to evoke wonder and delight among visitors.

"The arboretum provides the perfect backdrop for this collaborative endeavor," remarked knitting coordinator Fontelle Jones of Great Yarns. "I can't wait to see how our creations interact with the natural beauty of the gardens, creating moments of joy and surprise for everyone who wanders through."

Throughout the month of March, visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves fully in the experience, snapping photos, sharing their impressions on social media with friends. The Arboretum is free to visit and open from dawn to dusk every day.
Color Storm promises to be a feast for the senses, inviting residents and tourists alike to rediscover Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens in a whole new light. Don't miss your chance to be part of this enchanting spectacle!

Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing public access to an extensive collection of ornamental plants in a beautiful setting. The Arboretum offers educational programs, events, and workshops to promote horticultural knowledge and appreciation in the community
