2 Reasons Why You Should Ditch Starbucks for Your Daily Coffee Fix

Ok friends, I know we haven’t known each other long but I have to say something. I love coffee. Like something fierce. And I know I’m not alone in this. I’m also not afraid to admit I am a bit of a snob, but after all, who isn’t in one way or another. Anyways, I’m writing to tell you that if you are in Downtown Everett and you are still going to Starbucks you ought to stop. At least twice. Because I’ve got two places that are a block apart that are really doing some great things with coffee. Let’s elevate the coffee experience here in our city. Try sitting in with a real mug and enjoy the vibe of the shop, the people, and the coffee.

#1 Bookend Coffee (closed)
You may not know it but Everett is home to one of the west coast’s premiere artisan coffee roasters. Velton’s is located in the Lowell neighborhood and they are no joke. Just so happens that you can have this coffee deliciously prepared in all sorts of fantastic ways right off the lobby of the Everett Public Library. Now I know you are probably wondering what it’s like to have a top notch cup of coffee in what amounts to a side wing of a public library. But, I’m telling you the truth here friends. They pull some amazing shots of espresso on that brand new La Marzocco Strada (I see you Bookend!)

#2 Silver Cup Coffee (closed)
I have to be entirely transparent here, I manage this place. So take that as you will. However, I want you to know that I wouldn’t run this place unless I believed in what it is we are doing. The coffee here is roasted in South Seattle by a man named Blas. He grew up on a coffee farm in Costa Rica. That’s pretty legit. Pulling espresso shots on a classic La Marzocco Linea these baristas know what they’re doing. Latte art is just part of the deal here and your cup of coffee is never without great conversation.

Both places do pour-over coffee, offer delicious pastries and other food items, and would love to prepare you a quality beverage to enjoy. Specialty coffee is still new to Everett but don’t be afraid to give it a shot (haha, get it?). It ought to be fun and accessible. So, go adventure and see what you can find.

Here’s a list of coffee nerd drinks:

-Single-origin Pour-over (Try the Burundi Murango at Silver Cup and the Mexico Nayarita at Bookend, 12oz).

-A Traditional Cappuccino (Served in a 6oz mug).

-A Gibraltar or Cortado (A 5oz drink served in a clear glass).

-An Espresso Macchiato ( A 3.5oz espresso forward drink).

-Maybe the shop has a signature drink, something that sets them apart from everyone else. Feel free to ask your barista about it. You may just find your new favorite beverage.
