Desperate To Be IRL (In Real Life), Anyone?

For the last five months, we have all journeyed through an unsettling, uncharted territory and experienced the discomfort of personal and societal uncertainty all at once. Good times.

To make it even dreamier, being sedentary in our homes for long periods of time has now eclipsed the phase where we are revived, rested, and revitalized by our downtime. We are currently entering the “bored, depressed, and frustrated phase.”

Like it or not, we are complex beings, in need of real human interaction, three-dimensional stimulation, and stupid jokes.

So the time has come for Everett Improv to reopen in a ridiculously safe way so we can all keep from going completely mad. Partially, we have been there for months.

We have some new and exciting changes, like an expanded classroom/show space and a beer/wine license, in addition to an ever-expanding selection of experiences. I say “experiences” because some of our classes can hardly be called a “class,” in the best way possible. For instance, one of our new offerings is Happy Hour Improv, for the person who wants just to have fuuuuuuun. Sometimes too much learning/instruction/feedback can get in the way of wanting to try new things and having a good time on a weeknight. Well, we hear you.  And that’s why we birthed Happy Hour Improv - over two hours of unadulterated weird games, hilarious exercises, and drink specials.

For more of the academics with some experience, we have intensives on monologues, character-building, and open scene work. Did I lose you at “monologues?”

Well, then maybe I can get you back with Mental Ninja Stuff, the more societally successful brother of Happy Hour Improv.

Or maybe classes aren’t your thing but you miss going to shows? Well, indoor shows won’t be back for a bit sadly… but we have a solution. We will do a private improv show in your driveway, from the bed of a 1970 Chevy.  You provide a parking space and the socially-distanced audience, and we bring the most customized and beautifully-pandered show ever spawned.

Still don’t want to do anything in person because safety is first, second, and third? But you do want to participate in local culture, support a small business, and experience the joy of custom comedy?  All you need to do is order a Custom Comedy Commission. With a donation of any amount and a suggestion of absolutely anything, we will send back as many original jokes inspired by your suggestion as possible. Prefer a limerick, short story, fake Dr. Suess, that wedding toast you haven’t written yet, etc.? If it can be created in written form, we can do it.  Just tell us what you want your suggestion to inspire and we will work our improv magic and email your commission to you within 24 hours.

Or maybe just stop by, in a mask, when we are open (class nights 6-11 p.m.) and browse the local art for sale on the wall while you enjoy a beer and friendly chat. We are literally here for you.

Speaking of loving you, due to the widespread financial hardships caused by COVID-19, all Everett Improv classes are now “pay what you can.” We also have sexy new and stringent safety and cleaning protocols that go beyond CDC guidelines, ensuring the safest possible experience.

We miss you. We hope you missed us. And if you don’t know us to miss us, let’s fix that.
