Although not nearly well-known as the attack on Pearl Harbor, which happened 10 hours earlier, the attack on Clark Field and other American installations in the Philippines, was in some ways more far-reaching in opening the South Pacific and Southeast Asia to the invading Japanese, and in the end caused many more casualties.
