Coding with Imagination: LEGO Mindstorms & MIT Scratch! (Ages 8-12)

  • Everett Community College Corporate & Continuing Education Center 2333 Seaway Boulevard Everett, WA, 98203 United States (map)

While coding is fun in itself - how can you use software or robot coding superpowers to re-imagine and reinvent the world around you with a real project? Whether you've never written any code or are a seasoned coding rock star, this camp will introduce "design thinking" and provide an opportunity to: develop empathy for real people (users of your software program or robot!), design a creative (and fun!) solution to solve their real world problems, flex your skills in collaborating with a team, and - of course - write some code to make it happen!

Goals for the week include growth in not only coding skills, but also complementary skills in "design thinking", user empathy, nurturing your imagination, and communicating/collaborating with users and teammates.

While on-site at the camp, students will have the option to use (and guided on) Lego Mindstorms (targeted at ages 10+, but still approachable for interested younger students), computers with access to MIT Scratch (targeted at ages 8-12).

No prior experience required, but students will be welcome to (and empowered to) make use of any experience they happen to have.

Half-day campers should bring one nut-free snack.

Registration: $450
