Communities of Color Coalition: Collectively Empowering Community to Disrupt Oppressive Systems
Everett is a diverse community, full of people who consistently collaborate to ensure our home celebrates this strength. It’s one of the things that attracted me to live in Everett many years ago. It’s also one of the things that allow for the development of collective solutions for safer and healthier spaces and communities for those who have historically and contemporarily been denied a right to safety and comfort.
The Communities of Color Coalition (C3) is a non-profit in Snohomish County that works to build capacity for systemic change through community organizing, specifically within and between communities of color. C3 educates and advocates for human rights and social justice, especially for those that have been systemically oppressed.

This organization also provides a comprehensive approach to systemic change, addressing both immediate, emergent community needs while also participating in legislative advocacy work to address the root causes of these concerns.
Devoted to creating an inclusive community, free of racism and all forms of intolerance, C3 hosts general membership meetings. Meetings are open to the community and C3 is open to feedback and direction for organizational operations. The organization also hosts conferences (2022 is TBD), where scholars and artists of color speak, participate in panels, and facilitate workshops.
In addition to these events, C3 also:
Provides free produce boxes
Sponsors health and wellness events (like Zumba, and Trauma-Informed Yoga) and educational workshops
Partners with a variety of advocacy support efforts
Advocates for sustainable advisory committees with those with lived experience having a seat at the table
The C3 website is a resource for Covid-19 information, mutual aid groups, rental assistance and other community resource links.
The media page on the C3 website has recordings of Martin Luther King Jr., past conferences, their KSER Color Commentary Programs as well as the 2018 Vigil for Pittsburgh.

New C3 members are always welcome and accommodations can be provided to ensure finances are not a consideration for membership. They also accept donations.
C3 supports and inspires transformation by connecting people who are directly impacted by issues in our community. Through these connections, solutions and systemic change can be imagined, planned, and fostered so that Snohomish County, and Everett, can be a diverse and inclusive home for all people.

Angela Di Filippo currently works in State Social Services and recently earned her Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with extensive training in evidence-based leadership coaching. Angela moved from North Carolina to Washington 6 years ago and has proudly called Everett her home for 5 of those years. When not helping others solve problems in creative and strength-driven ways, Angela enjoys her time painting, hiking with her terrier-mix, Indy, and eating waffles.
