Improv Classes Are Coming to the Historic Everett Theatre

Hey you.

Yeah, you.

Are you ready to cross another line off your bucket list and learn improv?

Our pal Britney Barber has been working on building an improv scene in Everett. Now you can get in on the fun. Britney and fellow improv pro Kate Jaeger will be offering improv classes at the Historic Everett Theatre starting this April.

Youth classes start at just $50 (ages 11 and up). Adults can choose between a beginner or advanced class.

So why should you learn improv? What’s the value of it? I’ll let Britney share in her own words:

You, too, could find yourself becoming a T-rex on stage // Garret Hunt

You, too, could find yourself becoming a T-rex on stage // Garret Hunt

“Improv isn't just about "make 'em ups and yuck 'em ups."

Improv directly correlates to living life. For better or worse, we are constantly navigating an infinite number of unpredictable variables.

In addition, there are never-ending difficult situations that seem impossible to prepare for—Job interviews, first dates, relationships, personal or professional confrontations, interactions with strangers, social situations where you don't know anyone, presentations for work or school, working with difficult people, or even those weird crazy adventures you didn't mean to have but find yourself on due to a twist of fate.

Now imagine feeling like none of that could "throw you off." The concepts of successful improv comedy actually utilizes effective communication techniques, psychological principles, and creative/critical thinking approaches that can be applied to making really good stupid jokes, cultivating healthier relationships, building a better work life, and feeling powerful and unstoppable in any situation.

When we embrace the unknown and lean into it, the "mysteries" in life seem less daunting and often, then, bend to our will. Embracing our lack of control over anything actually helps us achieve real dominion over our own existence. And who couldn't benefit from the medicinal effect of silly voices and stupid jokes on a weekday?”
