Black Lab Gallery Turns 1, Famed Muralist “Henry” to Exhibit

Black Lab Gallery is turning 1 year old! 

The hippest joint on Hewitt is home to visual art as well as regular poetry readings, knitting groups, live music performances, artist markets, and even local product launch parties.

Black Lab is doing fine, thanks, and to celebrate they are throwing a party on August 17, featuring an exhibit of all new work by famed local muralist Ryan Henry Ward.

Ward, known simply as “Henry,” has been called “Seattle’s most prolific artist.” He's painted over 200 colorful murals. His surreal cartoon characters cover buildings in Ballard and beyond—houses, garages, school interiors. Even vehicles. 

You’ve probably seen the Everett mural he painted earlier this year. Technicolor animals sit on either side of a table on the alley side of the United Church of Christ building (Everett & Rockefeller).

Henry is an original, an eccentric. His cartoony unicorn-fish and long-limbed yetis create a sense of childlike wonder in viewers who encounter these fantastic creatures in unexpected places.

Black Lab’s Party is on Thursday, August 17 from 6-10PM. There will be live music by Janky Gypsy and the event is sponsored by Everett’s Lazy Boy Brewing.
