New Music, Vintage Formats: Oliver Elf Army and FUNERALHOMES Release Party

Longtime Live in Everett readers are no doubt familiar with former editor Henry J. and his band Oliver Elf Army, whose fantastic theme song opened and closed the Live in Everett Podcast. Some of you may have even planned to go to their LP release party back in March of 2020 which was postponed and ultimately canceled. This left them with crates of "Oliver Elf Army are Sending Thoughts and Prayers" on vinyl that they've never had a chance to sell directly to fans.

On October 23, they'll finally get to, along with a cassingle from Everett's new cassette-based label, Palmer House Tapes. Why tapes in 2021? Palmer House's Bryan Bradley says that while bands will always want that warm vinyl experience, it's often cost-prohibitive. Especially for an EP. A cassette can get you close to it, plus it's a cool souvenir you can buy at a show and carry home in the pocket of your hoodie.

Dig out your old Walkman because Brad Heyne's FUNERALHOMES is also on the bill and selling their new EP "Haunts," the first official Palmer House release. You may have caught FUNERALHOMES as a solo act at Lucky Dime during Fisherman's Village, but for this show, Brad's being joined by Bryan from Palmer House and his I Will Keep Your Ghost bandmates Doug Evans and Sarah Feinberg. They're doing double duty because I Will Keep Your Ghost is also on the bill.

That's three bands for the low price of $10, with sound by Adam Bagley and visuals by Sidney Penland, plus food by El Mariachi. It's all happening at the VFW, along with an afterparty at Lucky Dime featuring a DJ set by Sphyramid. That show is free for people coming from the VFW show and is a $5 suggested donation for everyone else. Both venues require proof of vaccination or a negative covid test within 72 hours, and you have to wear a mask at all times at the VFW except when eating or drinking.

This will definitely be a legendary night. Be sure to bring money for records, tapes, and t-shirts.
